Established in 1972, the City College Poetry Festival is the longest-running poetry celebration in New York. The festival is an all-day love affair with the spoken word, beginning at 9:15AM and concluding at 5PM. Taking place in the Marian Anderson Theater of Aaron Davis Hall, the festival is the culmination of workshops held in some of the most underserved public schools in the city, many of which have had their arts programs cut significantly due to budget cuts. The festival and workshops are organized by Pamela Laskin, Executive Director of the Poetry Outreach Center, author, and lecturer in the City College’s English Department. “The City College Poetry Festival is the democratic voice of poetry in New York City public schools,” Mrs. Laskin says. “This would make Walt Whitman proud.” Mrs. Laskin…See More

Elena Sturman, Executive Director (center) with Jason Ramnath & Kailee Neal                   The Annual Donor Appreciation Reception, one of The City College Fund’s favorite nights of the year, was held last night at the elegant 3 West Club in Manhattan. It was an evening to honor the thoughtfulness and generosity of the donors who continue to believe in the importance of our mission and the power of its impact. The College’s twelfth president, Dr. Lisa S. Coico, kicked off the evening with a healthy dose of school spirit; she revved up the crowd with news of the College’s medical school welcoming its first class on August 8th, as well as lesser known facts. (For example, did you know that 12 Oscar winners once walked the halls of City College, including Woody Allen?)Then, everyone’s attention turned…See More

Hyperventilating, facial and hand spasms, and an undersized head, for example? For the parents of 1 in every 10, 000 live births, these symptoms, among others, will  result in the diagnosis of Rett Syndrome (RTT). Previously confused with autism or cerebral palsy, Rett Syndrome almost exclusively occurs in girls, and effects all races and ethnicities.Join us at…See More

Entrepreneurship Secrets from Bert Brodsky & Kim Wales By Katherine Olives March 11, 2016

If you missed Tuesday’s Fireside Chat with legendary Bert Brodsky and Kim Wales, you missed a fascinating conversation about what it means to be an entrepreneur (and a few stories we can’t even share online!). Both of our guests speakers delved into their pasts, sharing intimate details about their journey to success. Their stories gave students a roadmap to running a killer business, and there’s no way we could summarize all of their great advice, so here are some of the conversation’s best takeaways:Entrepreneurs are born.
